Camelot Announces 2016/17 H1 Results

Camelot UK Lotteries Ltd revealed its financial results for the first six months of the 2016/2017 fiscal year. The company announced that the ticket sales in the National Lottery amounted to a total of £3,389 million over the period from April 1st to September 24th.

The Chief Executive Officer of the company Andy Duncan shared that in his opinion the performance of the National Lottery operator over the first half of the fiscal year represented one of its best since the establishment of the National Lottery in 1994, despite the challenging environment the company had faced over the last six months.

The boss of Camelot UK also commented on the current economic conditions, saying that the environment is quite uncertain, and customers became more cautious when it came to their spending. According to Mr. Duncan this would make the next half-year period quite challenging for Camelot, especially considering the fact that the National Lottery operator was facing fierce competition from the wider gambling sector.

Camelot UK announced that the direct return for National Lottery Good Causes over the first six months of the fiscal 2016/2017 amounted to £783 million, which accounts for more than £30 million on a weekly basis. The operator revealed that Team GB and ParalympicsGB were two of the recipients that got the biggest funding, although elite sports is granted with 4% of all the proceeds raised for the Good Causes initiative. As a result, the teams of Great Britain and Northern Ireland did a great job at the competitions.

The “I Am Team GB” campaign of the National Lottery which was carried out in collaboration with ITV, was also reported as quite successful, considering the fact that nearly one million people chose to take part in it.

The UK National Lottery operator also revealed that it awarded prizes amounting to £1,928 million over the first six months. In addition, the total amount awarded by the company is estimated to more than £61 billion. Camelot is also proud by the fact that it returns 95% of all revenue back to society.

The operator explained that its total sales and returns to Good Causes over the first half were estimated to £3,615 million and £875 million, respectively. In addition, Camelot UK revealed that the sales generated by its digital channels increased to the record £726 million over the six-month period. The company shared that sales generated by its mobile division were particularly strong, as they rose by 13.5%. the online and in-store instant play games also had an excellent performance, with the sales rising to £1,434 million thanks to a new series of innovative games roll-out.

Camelot reported that the draw-based games’ sales increased towards the end of the first six months, after they experienced a challenging start, especially in the first fiscal quarter.
