Gateway Casinos Plans $60-Million Casino Expansion in Greater Sudbury

The Canadian gaming operator Gateway Casinos & Entertainment revealed that it signed a document outlining a future partnership with True North Strong in order to join the proposed the latter’s development in Greater Sudbury. As revealed by the company, it plans to open a luxury casino and entertainment facility there.

Gateway Casinos shared that the proposed gaming and entertainment hub is to feature a large gaming floor, as well as a number of dining options. The long-term project is estimated to $60 million and is expected to result in opening approximately 250 new jobs, which will expand the company’s employees in the region of Greater Sudbury to more than 400.

Gateway’s Senior Vice President and Managing Director in Ontario, Keith Andrews, commented on the massive project, saying that marked a great progress for the company as far as major investments and new jobs opening in the region of Greater Sudbury are concerned. According to him, the proposal of the True North offers the opportunity for establishing a flourishing district, while on the other hand a Gateway-branded property would perfectly complement the dynamic and successful development of the district.

The announcement made by the leading Canadian gaming company marks the first step of the process that is planned to end with a relocation and redevelopment of Gateway’s already existing casino, which the brand acquired from OLG at the end of May 2017.

According to the report made by the gaming and entertainment operator, the new property located in the district of Greater Sadbury is scheduled to open over the first half of 2020. In the meantime, the gaming company plans to continue to work with Sudbury Downs’ track owner until the new gaming and entertainment facility in Greater Sudbury is officially launched.

The company has been described as one of the most successful and respected Canadian gaming brands, with its massive success being subscribed to the fact that the operator had developed leading casino and restaurant brands that have been extremely beneficial for the overall experience of the gaming customers in the region.

As the transition process in the North and Southwest Gaming Bundles has been already finalised, the gaming operator is to become more focused on its plans to make an investment exceeding $300 million in the region of Northern and Southwestern Ontario in order to introduce its leading brands to the local communities.

The President of True North Strong, Dario Zulich, also commented on the letter of intent signed by Gateway Casinos. He described the brand as the leading gaming and entertainment operator on the territory of Canada and shared his opinion that the new event centre to be established would be a great and valuable addition to Greater Sadbury. According to him, the district would draw benefit from the new hotel and convention space and the premium casino that would be added in the region.
