History

Maxims Casino Club was built in 1862 and initially was known as the Palace Gate House. The building was actually built for John Foster, a friend of Charles Dickens. In 1899, the property underwent a renovation and became known for the slogan “a house built for a gentleman by gentlemen.”

John Foster was a close friend with the wealthiest and most influential people of his time. The Palace Gate House was used for storing his illustrious library. The latter is now available in the Victoria and Albert Museum. No significant alterations to the Palace Gate House were made even after its conversion into the Maxims Casino Club.

Today, the property boasts about being visited by affluent guests and providing them with a plethora of options for their top-notch gambling and dining experience.

You will see a “members only” sign on the front door. In order to be allowed to enter the premises, you have to apply for a membership. The process itself is quite simplified. It is important to note that unlike the majority of other casinos, the Maxims’ is open from 1 pm to 6am.
