Burglars Steal £60,000 in Chips from Salford Casino on Christmas Day

It must have been an unpleasant surprise for a local Salford casino to find out that around £60,000 has been stolen from the gambling establishment on Christmas Day. In a brazen burglary, an unidentified number of individuals have gained access to the casino by smashing the wall at the back of the building.

The thieves have taken gambling chips worth approximately £60,000 from Genting Casino in Salford, a relatively small casino on Cromwell Road, the Manchester Evening News reported on Wednesday. Nothing else has been stolen from the establishment, the police believe, although the worth of the missing chips is massive enough on its own. According to a police spokesperson, the incident has taken place around 11:00 in the evening while the casino was closed for Christmas.

It is still unclear how many people have been involved in the burglary but evidence suggests that up to seven individuals might have taken part in the raid on Christmas Day. The intruders, still unidentified by the police, managed to break into the building by smashing through one of the walls. The number of gambling chips they have taken must have been huge, according to estimations, although the police have not yet revealed any details.

The investigation is ongoing but so far, no arrests have been made, the Manchester Evening News says, citing the GMP spokesman. There is currently no information about any suspects that might have been identified. Authorities have not revealed whether there is any footage from security cameras or any other clues as to who the intruders might have been.

Live Games at Genting Casino Cancelled

The casino has re-opened on Wednesday but according to customers, the live games were not available. They would probably be launched as soon as the replacement chips arrive at the casino. Normally, Genting Casino Salford is open 24 hours a day but it closes on bank holidays, including Christmas Day.

This is a relatively small branch of the Genting chain of casinos, which offers six tables of American roulette, two tables of 3-5 Multi-Win Poker, and two tables of blackjack. The 22,000 square foot gaming floor also includes around twenty slot machines and eighteen electronic roulette terminals. In addition, the casino has a dedicated poker room, along with a restaurant, a bar, and a live concert venue. Interestingly, the maximum jackpots that could be won at any of the slot machines available reach £20,000, a fact that makes the Christmas Day burglary even more outrageous.

Genting UK is one of the largest casino operators in the country and it has more than 40 casinos, resorts and hotels. It is part of the Genting Group, which is based in Malaysia and operates dozens of gambling establishments in the United Kingdom, the US, Malasia, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean.
