Crown Melbourne Postpones 2021 Aussie Millions Until Further Notice

The poker tournament 2021 Aussie Millions will not be held in January as it used to be in previous years, said Crown Melbourne. Instead, the event will be postponed indefinitely due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The statement announcing the news is available on the casino’s official website where it is stated that Aussie Millions will be put on hold “until further notice”.

The popular poker Australian Poker Championship was first held in July 1998 and next year it would have marked its 24th time it was held at the Crown. Back then, the event was a Limit Hold’em game that used to accept 74 entries. Nowadays, it is a huge poker tournament, which accepts hundreds of players, with many poker legends from across the world flying to participate in the festival.

As Crown Melbourne has announced, the health of the same hundreds of poker enthusiasts that participate in the tournament every year is a top priority for the company. This is why it has decided to put on hold the event while the COVID-19 pandemic is still spreading across numerous parts of the world.

Crown has made sure that as the news about the virus continues to change, so will the decision about the postponement of Aussie Millions. Earlier this year, due to the ongoing pandemic, Crown was also forced to call off its 2020 Crown Poker Championship which was supposed to be held in April. This decision was followed by the cancelation of all tournaments that were scheduled to be hosted by the casino in the following months.

The Future of 2021 Aussie Millions

In addition to canceling all of its 2020 tournaments, Crown was also forced to postpone one of the biggest poker festivals in the world for the upcoming year. Even though this is disappointing news, the casino is ready to be compliant with the government’s restrictions and expert health recommendations.

Unfortunately, as the virus continues spreading across different parts of the world, with numerous countries reaching record highs of Covid cases, there is no way to predict whether Crown will be able to hold the poker event any time next year.

In the 2020 online WSOP event, a part of the winners’ prize was withheld as the amount was to be used in the 2020 World Series of Poker Europe tournament. The only issue with this is that the event was supposed to be held at King’s Casinos in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, which is currently shut down due to the pandemic. This is why Crown Melbourne has decided to postpone the 2021 Aussie Millions event and avoid such complications that cannot be predicted due to the uncertainty surrounding the spread of the virus.

The 2020 Aussie Millions was held before the virus spread across the entire world and caused a total lockdown of land-based casinos and other businesses. Unfortunately, as of now, the 2021 event will be postponed until there is good news about the current pandemic situation.
