Mr Green to Stop Offering Its Sportsbook Service to UK Customers as of September 8th, 2022

Recently, the gambling giant and parent organisation of some of the most popular online casino and betting brands in the UK – 888 Holdings – unveiled that it planned to make some cuts to offset its recent financial losses. As part of this strategy, the company has shared plans to halt the operations of Mr Green Sportsbook in the UK.

The operator informed its British customers about the decision, notifying them that it will stop offering the services of its Mr Green Sportsbook as of September 8th, 2022. The company also provided its users with all the information they might need regarding their pending bets and noted that players will be provided with a 48-hour window between September 6th and 8th to access the betting platform to check their bet history and bets.

During the 48-hour window, punters will not be allowed to place any new wagers.

Customers who have already placed prior wagers that are still set to be resolved should only wait for the operator to do so, as Mr Green said that such bets will not be cancelled. All bets that are due for settlement after the operator’s Sportsbook service has closed would be honoured when the wagers’ respective markets have been settled.

Mr Green Sportsbook’s UK Exodus Follows Similar Withdrawal from Germany

As for the players’ winnings, Mr Green’s parent company informed its customers that their winnings will be automatically sent to their accounts and players will be given the opportunity to withdraw them whenever they are willing to do so, with no restrictions applied. The gambling company also encouraged its customers to use the live chat in order to get in touch with its customer support in case they have any questions regarding the planned upcoming shutdown of Mr Green Sportsbook operations at the beginning of September.

The Sportsbook service of Mr Green in Ireland, however, will continue to operate as usual. The gambling company highlighted the fact that the planned September shutdown will only affect customers in the UK.

The shutdown of the Sportsbook service of Mr Green comes after the brand announced a decision to stop offering its sports betting services in Germany. At the beginning of the year, the company officially announced that it had decided to no longer provide its sports betting services in the country. As a result, its German-facing Sportsbook of Mr Green ceased operation with immediate effect.

Some customers have found the company’s decision to stop offering sports betting in the UK surprising, but at the time Mr Green announced its Sportsbook withdrawal from Germany the news was not considered as shocking. A number of popular and well-established companies, such as the Unibet brand of Kindred Group have also decided to exit the German gambling market due to the strict regulatory regime imposed by local authorities.

888 Holdings’ Mr Green brand has also recently faced a monetary fine issued by the Dutch gambling regulatory body – Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) – over the offering of certain gambling products in the Netherlands without the necessary operating permit. The company tried to appeal the KSA’s fine but the appeal was unsuccessful and the judges ruled in favour of the regulator’s initial decision.
