Poker Palace in North Las Vegas Set for Major Renovation After Acquisition by Truckee Gaming

Key Moments:

  • Poker Palace is scheduled to close temporarily on 1 October 2025 following its sale to Truckee Gaming LLC.
  • Approximately 126 employees are expected to be affected by the closure, with plans for some managers and salaried staff to transfer to Club Fortune in Henderson during the renovation period.
  • Truckee Gaming has announced a complete overhaul of the property, aiming for a mid-2026 reopening with extensive upgrades and new amenities.

Ownership Change and Strategic Expansion

The long-standing Poker Palace Casino in North Las Vegas is preparing for significant changes as it transitions from the Coleman family’s ownership, which dates back to its 1974 opening, to Truckee Gaming LLC of Reno. Truckee Gaming will be taking on the property as its first investment in the Las Vegas market, adding to its existing portfolio of ten casinos across Nevada.

Closure Timeline and Employee Impact

Operations at Poker Palace will stop on 1 October 2025 for a full-scale renovation. As a result, around 126 employees will be affected, and most hourly staff will be laid off during the downtime. However, some managers and salaried employees will have the opportunity to continue working at Club Fortune in Henderson; they will receive training during this period to facilitate their return once Poker Palace reopens.

Renovation Plans and Corporate Vision

Truckee Gaming has outlined a detailed plan to revitalize Poker Palace. The plan includes updated slot machines, modernized gaming systems, and several facility upgrades. Planned improvements will expand the casino floor and redesign restrooms and office areas. In addition, the main entrance will be made more accessible, while carpets, ceilings, and décor will be refreshed.

An expanded kitchen will accommodate a new quick-service restaurant with seating for 32, with an emphasis on providing diners with quicker and more diverse meal options. The property will also feature a redesigned and enlarged bar area, additional seating, state-of-the-art slot machines, and upgraded technology throughout the casino.

Truckee Gaming’s Chief Operating Officer, Pete McHugh, stated, “We can put ourselves in a position to draw more clientele to it with just a better strategy and reinvestment.”

Regulatory Process and Community Reaction

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has already issued a limited license. However, final approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission will only come after renovations finish in mid-2026. The planned closure and upgrade of Poker Palace have prompted mixed feelings in the community, as the property has been a prominent feature in North Las Vegas for over five decades.
