How Passkey Technology Transforms Account Security
The new passkey login enables players to access their accounts via biometric verification or device PINs, removing the need for passwords or one-time codes. Stake designed this change to strengthen account security and boost efficiency by addressing common vulnerabilities associated with passwords, such as reuse and phishing attacks.
Stake’s system adopts the FIDO (Fast Identity Online) standard, which is recognized globally and in use at technology leaders such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple. Microsoft has reported a 98% sign-in success rate using passkeys – triple that of traditional passwords – and PayPal saw a 70% drop in account takeovers following its implementation of the same standard.
Security and Convenience at the Forefront
“In an industry where trust and security are paramount, the move to passkey was an obvious next step,” said Stake Head of Product Andrew Forte. “We’re setting a new benchmark for player protection and convenience, removing password risk and proving that the most secure experience can also be the easiest.”
Alongside enhanced protection, passkey logins offer greater speed. According to Google, signing in with a passkey typically takes about 15 seconds, compared to 30 seconds for password entry. Stake, which processes over 100 billion bets annually, anticipates that reduced login times will allow users to access services more quickly, especially during live wagering events.

Stake initiated the rollout of the passkey login feature in mid-September. The function is being made progressively available through the account settings area, letting users enable this updated authentication method as it is deployed across the platform.
