Lobby Transformation Set for Milestone Year

The Flamingo, one of the oldest casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, is preparing for a significant renovation. On Monday, the property revealed it will completely redesign its lobby as part of its preparations for its 80th birthday celebration next year.

The property, owned by Caesars Entertainment, plans to introduce a new pod-style front desk, bronze flamingo statues, an entirely new bar equipped with tabletop gaming and television screens, and an enhanced VIP check-in area. “We’re introducing fresh designs that complement the recent additions to the property, creating spaces that feel modern yet unmistakably Flamingo,” said Dan Walsh, senior VP and GM of the property, in a statement. “The resort has always been an icon on the Strip, and these renovations ensure it remains a vibrant, must-visit destination for years to come.”

Recent and Upcoming Enhancements

The lobby renovation follows several updates completed in 2024, including the introduction of Pinky’s by Vanderpump, Gordon Ramsay Burger, Havana 1957, and the unveiling of the Go Pool in May. Looking ahead, the Flamingo plans to open a Salt & Straw ice cream shop and Category 10, an entertainment experience inspired by Luke Combs. Additionally, the property’s Bugsy’s Bar is slated for a redesign on the casino floor.

Historical Background and Legacy

The Flamingo originally opened in 1946 under the control of Bugsy Siegel, who assumed ownership after the property’s founder, Billy Wilkerson, could not repay a mob loan needed to finish construction. A common misconception popularized by the 1991 movie “Bugsy” is that the Flamingo was the first casino resort on what is now Las Vegas Boulevard; in reality, it followed El Rancho Vegas (1941) and the Last Frontier (1942).

Siegel was killed in June 1947, reportedly due to concerns from his mafia associates over cost overruns and missed financial targets at the Flamingo. His murder remains unsolved. The last original structures of the Flamingo, which included Siegel’s office and an escape tunnel, were demolished in 1993 by the Hilton Corporation.
