Warwick Mirzikinian Takes Down 2017 Sydney Championships AU$20,000 High Roller Event for AU$247,000

It is Warwick Mirzikinian who managed to emerge as the champion of the 2017 Sydney Championships AU$20,000 High Roller event, generating his best live cash to date.

Mirzikinian managed to overcome the fierce competition in the Championship’s High Roller event and took home the champion’s title and a first-place prize of AU$247,000. This is the second first-place win for Mirzikinian in just a few days, after the player took down the 2017 Sydney Championships 6 Max event at the end of July. The Australian managed to keep his steady pace, winning the first-ever High Roller Event featured by the Championships.

Until his latest win, Mirzikinian had total live earnings amounting to $536,168. His best live cash was generated in May 2012, when the player occupied the third position in the WSOP $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Mixed Max event for $162,443.

The Sydney Championships 2017 hosted by the Star Poker brand has been the longest-running domestic poker tournament series on the territory of Australia. Its current edition has been planned as the largest one so far, featuring a number of exciting events, including the inaugural AU$20,000 High Roller event that was scheduled for August 2nd.

The first-ever High Roller event in the Sydney Championships 2017’s schedule turned out to be very successful. With two days of quick-paced game action and 26 entries, the event is most likely to remain as a regular one in the Championship’s schedule for the years to come. Now, everyone have their eyes on the Main Event of this year’s edition of the Sydney Championships, which is set to take place on August 3rd.

The AU$20,000 buy-in High Roller event saw a number of popular Australian players join the competition for the title, including Jason Gray, Joe Hachem, Jonathan Karamalikis, Daniel Neilson, etc. Karamalikis was the one who managed to get to the final table of the event quite soon, and even finished at the third position of the ranking, scooping a monetary prize estimated to AU$98,800.

At the time when the heads-up battle between Andy Lee and Warwich Mirzikinian, it was Lee who wasted no time in grabbing the chip lead after starting with a slight chip disadvantage. It took some time to Mirzikinian to pull himself together, but eventually, he managed to eliminate his last standing opponent in a huge pot on the second position.

The Sydney Championships 2017 High Roller event’s champion, however, praised his opponents for their qualities, especially Karamalikis.

With Warwick Mirzikinian emerging as the event’s winner, taking home the High Roller’s title and the lion’s share of the guaranteed prize pool, Andy Lee remained on the runner-up position, scooping the second-largest monetary prize estimated to AU$148,200. As mentioned above, it was Jonathan Karamalikis who got eliminated at the third place, with a prize of AU$98,800.
