Auckland Player Hits Caribbean Stud Poker NZ$1.1-Million Progressive Jackpot at SkyCity Casino

Last night turned out to be a lucky one for an Auckland Caribbean Stud Poker player who managed to grow a NZ$35 bet into a winning of over a million at the SkyCity casino. The winner, whose name has not been revealed yet, is a regular customer of the casino, as according to SkyCity gaming staff she and her husband visit the venue every now end then.

Michael Ahearne, the chief operating officer of the Group, said that all casino employees were very happy for the casino customer and congratulated her for being on the right place with the right hand being handed to her at the right time. Mr. Ahearne further noted that the progressive jackpot of the Caribbean Stud Poker game has not reach such a massive amount for more than seven years.

The woman managed to win one of the largest-ever progressive jackpot winnings offered at a New Zealand casino. Even more impressive is the fact that she hit the jackpot after placing a modest bet on one hand of Caribbean Stud Poker only and was dealt a hand which is extremely rare to get.

The winner hit the progressive jackpot with a Royal Flush, by placing only a single hand of Caribbean Stud poker. She won the entire jackpot, to be handed a cheque for a total of NZ$1,108,585.60.

The Side Bet to Progressive Jackpot Brings the Prize

As revealed by the casino supervisor, the poker table was full when the player generated the win. The supervisor also described the decision of the woman to give some money to the rest of the players at the table as a great gesture.

The Caribbean Stud Poker progressive jackpot at SkyCity casino in Auckland has been reset after the win at NZ$286,000.

Caribbean Stud Poker is a type of poker which is pretty popular among casino players. It is established on the base of traditional “stud” poker in which only one hand consisting of five cards is dealt to players who do not play against each other but against the house. The player’s objective is to make a five-card poker hand that is higher than the one of the dealer. Players are also allowed to make a side bet in order to compete for a progressive jackpot. In case that they are dealt a Royal Flush hand, which is the highest hand in the Caribbean Stud Poker game, they are granted the entire amount of the progressive jackpot.

On Wednesday night, the winner wagered NZ$35 to make a side bet which made her eligible for winning the Caribbean Stud Poker progressive jackpot. As an official representative of the SkyCity Auckland casino revealed, she managed to beat the odds amounting to 649,740 to 1 in order to win the hand, scooping the entire jackpot of more than a million New Zealand dollars.
