Jason Koon emerged victorious from the $100,000 Buy-in PokerStars Championship Bahamas Super High Roller tournament. The event took place at the Atlantis Resort and Casino from January 6th to January 8th, 2017.
The 31-year-old poker player managed to outlast all of his opponents to win a first-place prize estimated to $1,650,300 plus a special PokerStars Super High Roller trophy. A total of 41 players started the game for Koon to emerge as a winner and get the first major title of the PokerStars Championship series.
In order to win the title of the Super High roller tournament, Koon had to face heads-up the young UK player Charlie Carrel. This is the second time when Carrel did not manage to win a well-desired trophy in a month, being after the champion’s title in Prague in December 2016 and losing it to Leon Tsoukernik.
The heads-up battle between Koon and Carrel was an epic one. The young UK player entered the final battle with a lead in the 2-1 ratio. This made Carrel confident in his success and he managed to quickly move to a 3-1 lead to Koon. However, the latter managed to turn the game in another direction, which at the end resulted in winning the tournament and getting the first-place prize.
Jason Koon commented on his victory, saying that it could have been the largest one of his own poker accomplishments. He explained that he could have won prizes of about 25,000 and 50,000, but he had never won such a massive prize. Koon shared that it had been a great challenge for him to outlast his opponents by literally keeping his eye on the rail.
With Jason Koon occupying the first position in the Super High Roller tournament taking home a prize of $1,650,300. Charlie Carrel remained at the runner-up position taking a consolation prize estimated to $1,191,900. The third place was occupied by US player Daniel Colman, who was granted with a guaranteed prize portion amounting to $759,660.
Daniel Dvoress from Canada remained fourth, followed by Byron Kaverman. Two more American players – Connor Drinan and Bryn Kenney – occupied on the sixth and seventh position, respectively.
